Website traffic depends on SEO but it also involves article marketing, newsgroups, Ezines, social networking, blogging, and RSS feeds for creative interactive strategies.

Search engine optimization (SEO) is not a new term and the concept of ranking websites according to search engine algorithms has become quite routine. In addition to SEO, there are many other online strategies that are great traffic magnets. A combination of interactive strategies is the best way to drive traffic to a website.

Optimize All Available Traffic Drivers

Website owners must continually evaluate new and different ways to promote their business and expand their marketing reach. As search engines adjust their algorithms and create new code, website owners must keep up with the changes. But attracting search engines is only one way to bring traffic knocking at a website door. There are other opportunities that can be leveraged to expand marketing reach.

As online marketing plans and strategies are created, keep these important opportunities in mind.

Article Marketing

Increase notoriety and recognition by writing articles for article sites. When people see articles and read the valuable information shared, they'll visit the website for more. There are several very reputable free article marketing sites and it's important to focus on a particular area of expertise to attract the best target audience. There are literally hundreds of article sites to target an audience for specific niche businesses.

Newsgroup Participation

Participate in newsgroups where people are searching for current information and data. Provide input and opinions when asked and demonstrate particular expertise. Just be careful not to become overbearing in chats or forums to avoid being ignored or ousted from the newsgroup.

Ezine Creation

Create an Ezine to keep customers and potential customers updated on what is happening in the business. An online magazine is one of the best ways to stay in front of customers and it's quick and easy to create. An Ezine is easily accessible and it's a great way to promote testimonials and positive product reviews. Just be careful to make it engaging and valuable by including new information, helpful tips, and other things related to the niche market.

Social Networking

Participate in social networks whenever possible. Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, LinkedIn, and many other social networks are gaining popularity among all age groups today. They were once only used by the younger online crowd, but today they have become a valuable marketing venue. Take advantage of social networking to get the word out about a business and network with thousands of people simultaneously.

Blogging

In addition to the normal website, a blogging component is recommended to supplement the site. Blogging is a great way to communicate more informally to a target audience and it helps them get to know the business owner more personally. People who buy over the Internet don't have the advantage of meeting business owners and physically visiting their store -- the website is the window into an online business and it must be attractive and inviting. Create excitement and curiosity about the store window by blogging consistently and attracting a crowd or encouraging new inbound links.

RSS Feed Components

Include an RSS feed on the website so people can keep up with what's new. It's a great way to encourage them to visit the website on a routine basis. An RSS feed (rich site summary or really simple syndication) allows people to stay informed about particular websites by delivering information right to the desktop in summary format. FeedReader, NewsGator, My Yahoo, Bloglines, and Google Reader are just a few examples of resources to explore. MAC users can check out Amphetadesk.

Creativity and Consistency Drive Traffic

Don't forget that there are many ways to attract the target audience to a website. It just takes creativity and consistency in the overall approach. Jumping in and out of forums or social networks without consistency will not work as well as a consistent approach. It's just like content on a website -- content must be updated with fresh, new information and data consistently for search engines to deem a site interesting and worthwhile. "Hit and miss" content posting is definitely not a good approach when it comes to online marketing!

For those who are truly interested in creating value for customers and establishing a 'sticky' website that keeps them coming back again and again, try a multi-pronged approach to marketing and watch the traffic increase over time. Interactive content, creativity, and consistency are the secrets to increased traffic volume to websites.
